STOUT Inspiration + Action To Accelerate Your Week
Get inspired by ever seeking scientist Marie Curie then take action to up your understanding and move past fear.
Marie Sklodowska Curie was a Polish-born French physicist famous for her work on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize in two different categories (physics and chemistry), to obtain a PhD degree from a French University and to become a professor at the University of Paris.
Born to a poor family of teachers in Poland, Marie studied secretly while working as a tutor and governess to fund her sister’s education, then began her own studies in France where she met her husband, fellow scientist Pierre Curie, with whom she worked to discover two new elements (polonium and radium) and pioneer the phenomenon they named “radioactivity”.
During the First World War, Marie Curie worked to develop small, mobile X-ray units known as “Petits Curies” and took them out to the war front with her daughter Irène to treat wounded soldiers. The Curie Institute in Paris, founded by Marie in 1921, remains today a premier cancer research facility.
First principle: never to let one’s self be beaten down by persons or by events.
