INSPIRATION

E.E. Cummings was a 20th century poet and novelist known for his innovative style and structure that played wildly with accepted ideas of form and spacing, punctuation, capitalization, grammar and pacing.

Born Edward Estelin, Cummings began his love of playing with style norms early; at the age of six he began writing poetry in all uniquely spaced all capital letters which were saved by his mother in a book she titled “Estlin’s Original Poems”.

Cummings earned a BA and MA in Arts from Harvard University, and despite critics disapproval, he never gave up writing in his own unique style, perhaps reflecting his belief that modern society killed individual creativity and freedom. Cummings is now considered “one of the most individual poets who ever lived.”

I’d rather learn from one bird how to sing
than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance.

ACTION

Question The Status Quo
Critics will always critique – don’t let that stop you from stepping off the well-beaten path to find your own way to pursue your purpose.

Find Your Unique Voice
Cummings originally self-published works to get heard. Don’t be afraid to use your voice to speak up, speak out and make yourself heard.

Go Small To Get Big
Mirror Cumming’s use of lowercase to call attention: when you’re stuck, try to focus on a tiny thing, a single step and go all in– the reward can be a big leap forward.
